Most of PBI's workshops focused on Peace-Building and Conflict Transformation. The emphasis of the workshop modules was towards 'hands-on practice' through analysis and role plays. While content for each workshop depended on the needs of the participants, a standard workshop included many of the following sessions:
- Conflict prevention strategies (e.g. conflict de-escalation techniques)
- Conflict analysis tools
- Conflict stories (sharing experiences and lessons learned from overcoming conflict through peaceful methods)
- Local wisdom and local models of conflict transformation (drawing-out local wisdom in order to produce local models of conflict transformation that are rooted in local traditions and values)
- Power relations (exploring the power over, power with and power within in order to boost inner power and cooperative power in peace building activities)
- Trust-building (building understanding, tolerance and trust across intercultural, inter-religious and other groups within communities)
- Active nonviolent communication (promoting and practicing active nonviolent communication across social, cultural and religious relationships)
- Satyagraha (nonviolent struggle for seeking a common truth and goals)
- Prejudice reduction and the cultivation of greater empathy between different social, ethnic and religious groups in tension (opening up and analysing stereotypes and stigmas in communities)
- Peace-building skills (i.e. negotiation, mediation, etc)
- Identifying and strengthening local peace networks
- Popular education methods (participatory and adult learning models)
